the war on christmas

i would like to go to war on christmas.

but not what the wacky conservative right right right right wingers think the war is. i mean really commercialism and economy have been pushing the real war on christmas since they realized that's the time of year they make 50% of their revenue.

how about not seeing christmas ads and decorations in october?
how about not seeing commercials for ALL products as the best christmas gifts of the season?
how about not beating each other up on the day after thanksgiving over Xbox 360, tickle me elmo or cabbage patch kids?
how about not hearing christmas songs before thanksgiving?

how about respecting other people's forms of worship from all sides of it? i mean, is a "christmas tree" really that offensive. maybe just as offensive as seven candles placed in a row.

because i celebrate christmas and don't do it in scary secrecy doesn't mean i'm openly saying i hate all other forms of worship. and why is this an issue NOW.

if there's such a huge hatred and backlash against christianity (i know there is a bit, but nothing close to what judaism has suffered for 100s of years . . .) why is it happening only at christmas? why all the publicity now?

for how many people is christmas truly about the birth of Christ? only for Christians and those who get sentimental around the holidays.

but it seems more than obvious to me that most people think Christmas is about wrapping paper, putting themselves in debt for kids who could never settle with just one or two gifts (because all their peers are getting so much more) and revisiting our odd relationship with materialism and economy.

and overeating.

yeah, i don't really get it either. maybe fox just doesn't have much story to run their news on. i mean, i get what each side is saying, but really, does it really matter that much?
that's what i was listening to on npr, as i was insanely on the road to go see my friend in canton.
i get it. christmas tree is a christmas tree, just as minorah(spelling?) is just that. i also get that it's more than just the nomenclature, but really. pick a better battle, i say. time and breath wasted. oi~ my exasperation goes to both the ultra right-wing, as well as the ultra left-wing. tsk, tsk, tsk.
alas, i too am wrapped up in the whole commercialism of it all. really sad...
but trying to really think about what it ought to mean, even as i write.
thanks for the ecard. i'll enjoy my birthday. don't want the bald guy coming to give me a whoop-ass kickin'. ;p
lotsa love
