Last week we helped some friends move into a new apartment. After about, oh, 30 minutes of hard work, we took a beer and pizza break. Suddenly we hear a crack and see what looks like fireworks some from behind a tree in front of the street across from us. The cracking, popping and fireworks continue and we realize that a transformer or power line is starting to blow across the street.
The roof caught on fire, the tree caught on fire. A.S. called the fire department and we started screaming for anyone in that house to get out. So did many neighbors who recently joined us in the gawking. A girl ran out of the house and started to cross the driveway just when the power line breaks into two pieces and she almost got hit by one end of it.
FOUR fire trucks and 3 police cars arrived. It was terrifying to watch and exciting at the same time. Luckily no one got hurt, the fire went out and so did the power for that whole block! NSTAR to the rescue after all was said and done.
